Pretty new here myself....I gotta agree Tom is pretty awesome. For me he ranks up there with James Patterson.

I've only read "Roadside Attraction" so far. I'm eager to get my paws on another. *mental note...need to go to library*

There are, indeed, at least two other TR tribes that I'm aware of. Fierce Invalids and the Rubber Rose Ranch.

He's my favorite author, bar none, despite that fact that he did NOT write my favorite book - but he did write my #2-#6 favorites. :-)

Stranger in a Strange Land by R.A. Heinlein.

I'm sure the next time I'm brave enough to (try to) read Ulysses it'll go up another couple of notches, though.

Stranger in a Strange Land is awesome.

I feel like Heinlein and Robbins have a similar style. Maybe Robbins was influenced a little from that book.

I'm sure you've read Dune. If not, read it. best science fiction i've ever read.

            >I'm sure you've read Dune. If not, read it. best science fiction i've ever read

I did read Dune several years ago, and reluctantly, as I had seen the movie first and the movie was SO bad. I didn't realize just how bad it was until reading, and completely enjoying, the book.

Further support of my theory that the better the book, the worse the movie version of the book. It's impossible to make the transition - it's like writing an essay about a symphony. One looses a lot in the translation.

Ultimate example: Has anyone both read the book and seen the TNT miniseries of Mists of Avalon?

Let's not forget the movie version of Cowgirls with Uma Thurmon. Well cast, I thought, but they chopped out about 80% of the story.
